We have so many wonderful volunteers that make our work possible. In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we are excited to start sharing volunteer spotlights here on our blog!
We are happy to kick things off by highlighting Hospice Volunteer, Cheri Daschle.
Cheri began volunteering with Hospice in Steamboat Springs about four years ago. She developed an interest, respect and love for people involved in hospice work during the passing of her grandmother. She was especially touched by the knowledge that a volunteer sat and comforted her grandmother during her final hours, until her family arrived.
In 2010, Cheri’s Mom passed away in Grand Junction, where she was cared for by incredibly attentive, gentle and professional Hospice staff. Before Cheri’s brother-in-law passed away in 2012, he was cared for by Northwest Colorado Health Hospice staff at The Doak Walker Care Center.
Cheri is proud to be able to carry on this gentle legacy of care and support as part of a Hospice team. She believes there is much hope even in death, and she feels incredibly honored to be able to walk with a patient and their family during this time.
Cheri has also volunteered at the Tread of the Pioneers Museum, where she attended the front desk and conducted tours for kids. Cheri loves reading, journaling, spending time with family and friends, and learning local and family history.
Thank you Cheri for volunteering with Northwest Colorado Health!
